The Coronavirus is affecting 210 countries and territories around the world and is causing considerable human suffering. Governments are trying to control the situation by enforcing lockdowns where unnecessary travel is restricted, and businesses are shut. This has created a serious cutback in the supply chain of essential goods. The Police and volunteers have scaled up relief operations distributing food packets and medical camps throughout the country

Under such circumstances a group of enthusiastic and socially responsible individuals from Kozhikode joined hands with Kozhikode Municipal Corporation and Kudumbasree to start a drinking water delivery system called ”Jala”. Jala is a digital platform for supplying pure drinking and cooking water within Kozhikode city limits, initially focussing on police checkpoints, volunteer relief camps, immigrants from other states and isolated residential areas.

Jala Project was inaugurated by the presiding mayor of Kozhikode, Mr.Thottathil Raveendran on April 7,2020. The Police, volunteers and other officials can now order water using Jala app from anywhere within Calicut city premises and the water will be delivered free by Jala volunteers in the minimum time. Extreme safety measures are taken to assure a very safe and hygienic delivery (as per UN protocol ).

Safe and hygienic delivery

The day starts very early for a jala volunteer. After undergoing a series of safety measures like hand sanitization, temperature check etc they will start their journey by 9 am.

Jala delivery vehicles and water containers are cleansed thoroughly by using soap and water everyday. Equipped with 3 layered masks, gloves and jackets, jala volunteers take extreme measures to assure a very safe and hygienic water delivery as per UN protocol.

Online payment

Everyday we are delivering more than 2500 bottles of water to corona warriors, free of cost. We will be able to continue this only through your generous contributions. As a part of social distancing we encourage you to transfer your donations online, using visa/ mastercard, credit card or debit cards, netbanking ,UPI etc and thereby contribute towards a cashless economy.
